FOUR students from Queen Katherine School have signed up as organ donors in the wake of a campaign to make Kendal the UK’s first ‘donor town’.

The pupils handed their donor registration forms over to Kendal Mayor Cllr Chris Hogg, who is spearheading the campaign alongside wife Cllr Rachael Hogg.

Taylor Finch, 13, Elisha Finch, 15, Sasha Johnson, 14, and Toby Johnson, 11, are hoping the move will encourage other youngsters to follow suit.

Cllr Clare Feeney-Johnson, mum to Sasha and Toby, said: “Lots of young people think you have to be 18-years-old to sign up as an organ donor.

“Making them aware and empowering them to make the decision for themselves would, if the unthinkable were ever to happen, give a clear direction for their parents.”

Cllr Hogg will also be giving an assembly at the school to talk about the donor town initiative.

Since the campaign launched in May, 414 people in the town have signed the National Organ Donor Register, of which 15 are under 10, five are aged 11-15, and 75 are aged 16-20.
