National Grid said that engineers will be carrying out essential work to replace an old cast-iron gas main with a modern plastic pipe on the rural road.

Work is set to start on October 12 and is expected to take until Sunday, November 15 to complete.

Cuckstool Lane will be closed to traffic while the work is carried out.

Stephen Murray, head of Contract West, said: “We need to do the work to make sure that the people of Burnley can continue to count on a reliable gas supply.

“We are replacing a section of old metal main with a modern type of plastic pipe which will last at least 80 years once it is in the ground.

“We know that closing the road will cause issues for local people but we hope that they will be patient with us. We will do everything in our power to get our job done as quickly as possible.

“We hope that people will understand that a few weeks of work will allow us to guarantee them a safe and reliable gas supply for many decades to come.

“If people have questions about the work, they can get in touch with us on 0161 703 1000.”
