WITH the early autumn good weather hopefully continuing this weekend there are a host of family events happening in East Lancashire.

The first flyball team in the area has set up training classes, beginning this weekend.

Reiver Rebels will start winter training classes from Sunday at Waddow Hall, Clitheroe,open to everyone with a dog.

A spokesman for the group said:“Whatever you and your dog can manage we can guarantee you will both have a great time and on top of that it will keep you and your dog fit.”

Fans of steam locomotives are in for a rare treat tomorrow as an excursion has been re-routed to begin in Blackburn.

The Lune Rivers Trust excursion to York will leave Blackburn at 10.15am Saturday and will pass through Accrington at 10.25am and Burnley at 10.56am.

The return trip will pass through the Burnley area around 5.20pm and arrive back at Blackburn at 5.50pm.

There’s a buzz of anticipation in Chorley as the town centre gears up for the hugely popular Chorley Live that attracted more than 5,000 people last year.

The two-day live event will see more than 200 performances across 27 venues over two nights in Chorley’s town centre, with entry to all the venues over both nights costing just £5.

Lancashire Constabulary is holding its second open weekend in recent years, when members of the public will get to see ‘behind the badge’ at the force’s Hutton headquarters.

The event will be tomorrow and Sunday from 10am until 4pm and there will be lots of opportunities to access all areas, alongside a packed timetable of activities, including dog and mounted displays, talks on counter-terrorism and cybercrime as well as displays from Lancashire Fire and Rescue, North West Ambulance Service and the Bowland Trust Mountain Rescue.

Pendle Ski Club is holding its annual open day on Sunday at its base on Clitheroe Road, Sabden, giving visitors the chance to sample free beginner taster sessions on the nursery slope with fully qualified instructors.

The event runs from 10am – 4pm. There will be a barbecue available along with snacks and drinks.

Finally, Bancroft Mill in Barnoldswick will be holding a steaming day on Sunday. The museum is open at 11am, the engine runs from 1pm to 4.30pm.

There will be weaving workshops and tours at 12 and 2pm.
