And both Emma and Jodie have used their time since being nominated to raise money for the charity Variety, which the contest supports.

The winner of Miss Lancashire will, amongst other prizes, win a place in Miss England where she will have a chance to go onto Miss World where the main prize is $100,000.

Organisers say the event is much more than a beauty pageant or modelling competition and they are looking for an ambassador for the area.

Emma, from Brinscall, spent four years in the RAF and currently works in hotel management but has also worked as a model.

Lancashire Telegraph:

She said: “Being ex-military I’m hardworking and determined to try my best to win and hopefully have the Miss Lancashire representative a local girl.

“I’m hoping to swap my beret for crowns!

“As part of the competition one of our tasks is to raise money for Variety, the children’s charity and I’m holding a fundraiser party at The Pines Hotel this weekend.”

Teenager Jodie, a former Albany Academy pupil from Chorley, is also hoping to pick up the crown.

Lancashire Telegraph:

She said: “I’ve enjoyed the charity aspect of the competition and have held a sponsored walk and sold some of my old outfits to raise money.

“I’ve got two brothers, one older and one younger, and they’re very supportive and my family will be there at the competition.”

Someone well presented, confident and able to communicate are just some of the qualities that the judges will be looking for.

A spokesman for Miss Lancashire said: “Our winner will be actively encouraged to use their title to promote the area and raise the profile of many worthy causes throughout their year.”

The Miss Lancashire Final will be held on October 18 at The Playhouse Theatre, Preston.
