HUSBAND and wife drug dealers have each been jailed for 20 months at Burnley Crown Court after failing to heed a warning about dealing in amphetamines on a town estate.

David and Christine Allen, of Every Street, were arrested twice within the space of a few months on suspicion of trading in class B drugs.

The couple also had a record of drugs involvement – with the husband prosecuted eight years ago for handing out amphetamines to his then-pregnant wife.

Warrants were executed by the neighbourhood policing team for the Trinity area of Burnley, with drugs found on both occasions.

PC Michelle Horne, of the Trinity area team, said after the hearing: “This couple continued to deal drugs after being caught the first time.

“We would like to thank local residents for passing on information to enable us to obtain warrants.”

And PC John Fisher, community beat manager for Trinity, added: “We will continue to work with residents to root out those who deal drugs in the area.”

The couple were each before the courts back in 2006, with David Allen admitting to supplying his then-pregnant wife with amphetamines, bought from her disability living allowance.

Police raided their then home in Piccadilly Street and found £600 worth of the drug stashed in a fridge freezer. The husband later admitted dealing in amphetamines and his wife admitted possessing the drug at the town’s magistrates courts.

Christine Allen was said to have started taking the drug after suffering from epileptic fits. She was told that amphetamines would control her seizures, but then became addicted.

Earlier this week, the Trinity policing team was successful in obtaining a closure order at a house in Harold Street, which was said to be a base for anti-social behaviour and drug dealing. The action led to the eviction of a female tenant.
