A WOMAN who suffered what were described as 'serious' injuries after being in collision with a car as she walked on a zebra crossing in Darwen has been released from hospital.

The 25-year-old was said to have suffered serious head and spinal injuries, but police confirmed they are 'not life threatening or life changing'.

The collision happened as the woman crossed Duckworth Street in Darwen at 10.50am on Tuesday.

The male driver of the grey Ford Focus, who police said was in his 50s, suffered no injuries but was left shaken. No arrests have been made.

Irfan Munir, who owns Diamond Group which is based yards from where the crash happened, said: “I went to drop a car off but I could not go anywhere because the road was blocked off.

“I went to have a look and someone said there was a woman on the ground and an ambulance was dealing with it.”

Police have issued an appeal for witnesses following the crash which happened at 10.50am as the woman used the crossing near the Akash Indian restaurant. The car was travelling in the direction of Darwen town centre.
