THE demolition of Blackburn’s iconic Waves Water Fun Centre has been confirmed.

The 25-year-old baths, in Nab Lane, closed in the Spring and Blackburn with Darwen Council is expected to sell the site.

A modern £13.5 million leisure centre, backed by Blackburn College, in nearby Feilden Street opened earlier this year.

Waves cost £32,000 per month to run, and even after demolition the holding costs of the site are expected to be about £17,000 per month – costs which will be met by the council’s leisure department.

The work is expected to take 22 weeks and will start this month. Work will take place on the site from 8am-6pm Monday to Friday and 9am-1pm on Saturdays.

No HGVs will be allowed to park outside or queue on the approaching roads.
