A CLITHEROE care home has been told it is not a safe environment.

The criticism follows an inspection by the industry watchdog.

Prime Care Homes Limited in Eshton Terrace was visited by a team of Care Quality Commission inspectors in July. They concluded that the centre required improvement.

The home was told it needed to improve its safety, responsiveness and leadership but was praised for its effectiveness and caring.

At the previous inspection, in May 2014, it was found that the provider was not meeting the legal requirements relating to medicine management, care planning processes and quality monitoring and consultation systems.

The CQC asked the centre to take action to make improvements and in this inspection it was found that “sufficient action” had been taken.

In the report, an inspector said: “We found there were not enough staff available at the service to make sure people received safe and effective care.

“We also found people’s concerns and complaints were not always properly responded to and managed.

“There had been a high turnover of staff at the Clitheroe service.

“We therefore made a recommendation about attracting and retaining suitable staff to work at the service.

“There were processes in place to manage and store medicines safely. However, further improvements were needed and the registered manager took action to rectify these matters during the inspection.

“There were processes in place to maintain a safe environment for people who used the service, staff and visitors. However, we noted there was no call point fitted next to one shower.”

A spokesman for Prime Care Homes Limited said no-one was available to comment.
