A 31-YEAR-OLD old Polish man stormed round a Feed the Needy charity event in Blackburn town centre shouting anti-Muslim abuse.

Blackburn magistrates heard members of the group tried to calm Marcin Bakun and even offered him food but eventually had to order him to leave.

But he returned shouting more racist abuse and was eventually restrained until the police arrived, magistrates were told.

Bakun, 31, of Leicester Road, Blackburn, pleaded guilty to racially aggravated threatening behaviour.

He was sentenced to six weeks in prison suspended for 18 months and ordered to pay £180 criminal court charge, £85 costs and £80 victim surcharge.

Catherine Allan, prosecuting, said between 100 and 150 people were attending the town centre event on July 11 when Bakun showed up at around 7 pm.

She said Bakun was very aggressive as he shouted vile comments about Muslims and people from Pakistan.

“There was potential for a large scale public order incident because of the abusive language he was using,” said Miss Allan.

Jonathan Taylor, defending, said his client was appalled by his behaviour.

“In his interview with the police he said he was disgusted with himself and that is still the way he feels,” said Mr Taylor.

“He has been in this country for eight years, working hard all that time.

“There have been no problems at all prior to this incident.”

Mr Taylor said Bakun had drunk more than he was used to but could offer no explanation for his behaviour on the day.

“He doesn’t harbour these racist feelings and doesn’t know why he said the things he did,” said Mr Taylor.
