RESIDENTS have been warned to lock their doors — after a spate of attempted break-ins in Blackburn.

The Lancashire Telegraph has been sent CCTV footage of two men attempting to break into houses and cars in the Beardwood area of the town on Tuesday night.

Police have since warned residents in the Revidge and Beardwood areas to keep their property secure. But Faz Patel, an independent adviser to the force, said patrols need to be stepped up in the area.

He said: “Those thieves are not scared of any security measures, whether that is CCTV or high-powered lights.

“That is the concerning part.

“The police are doing their best and Blackburn with Darwen councillors are sending out information.

“In the video these men are brazenly trying to break into cars and houses and they do not seem to care. This is an affluent area and people work hard for their money and the last thing they need is for people to be doing this.”

Mr Patel said a neighbourhood-watch group for the Revidge, Beardwood, Sheer Brow and Lammack areas uses the social-media tool WhatsApp.

He said the group already has 150 members and is a good way for people to warn their neighbours if suspected criminals are in the area.

A police spokesman said: “We are reminding residents of Revidge and Beardwood to ensure they lock and secure their vehicles and garages after recent reports of two males acting suspiciously in the area.

“If you do see anything suspicious please call us on 101 — or, in an emergency, 999.”
