THE pool at Pendle Wavelengths will remain closed this weekend after the fire 10 days ago.

As many as 100 people were evacuated from the building, in Leeds Road, when a blaze broke out in the Inside Spa.

Pendle Leisure Trust’s chief executive Phil Storey said the facility would remain closed until further notice, but said alternative measures had been put into place.

They include private swimming lessons being moved to Pendle Leisure Centre in Colne, while all exercise classes have been moved to The ACE Centre in Nelson.

Bosses are looking at alternative venues for body and beauty treatments, and have opened a manned reception for Wavelengths at The ACE Centre for bookings and payments.

Gym users can use the gym at Seedhill Athletics and Fitness Centre in Nelson from 8am until 4pm today , tomorrow, and Monday.

Mr Storey said: “We are fortunate that we have other centres we can use to offer gym, swimming and classes, which other leisure providers would not be able to offer.

“We’d like to thank our customers for their patience and understanding during this time. Whilst we appreciate that this temporary closure may cause some inconvenience, we can assure all of our customers that we are working hard to ensure that normal service is resumed as soon as possible.”

Nobody was hurt in the blaze, although some swimmers were forced to flee in just their costumes.

The cause is not believed to be suspicious.
