EAST Lancashire is set for a mixed bag of weather over the Bank Holiday Weekend – but there’s still sackful of events to keep the family entertained before the kids go back to school.

Across the region are a host of exciting events, with something for everyone.

Here’s what’s going on.

The third Burnley Canal Festival, which runs from Saturday to Monday, is set to be the biggest yet and will feature colourful craft from across the country.There’s traditional dance, live music, face painting and craft and refreshment stalls, plus boat trips and historical events.

New for this year are a classical concert from 6.30pm on Saturday and a 5km colour splash run in Manner Sutton Street on the same day.

Another event stretching across the whole weekend is the Higham Scarecrow Festival, which runs from 11am to 6pm each day. Attractions include a scarecrow trail, book sale, children’s fun fair and a Songs of Praise concert.

The East Lancashire Railway is holding a family fun weekend from Saturday to Monday at their stations at Rawtenstall, Ramsbottom and Bury.

Peppa Pig and George will be in attendance, along with circus skills workshops, a petting farm, face painting and balloon modelling.

Springhill Care Home in Accrington is having a fun day on Saturday, with a bouncy castle, hook-the-duck, throw-the-sponge and food available from 12pm to 4pm.

One of the wackiest events on the global sporting calendar, the World Gravy Wrestling Championships takes place at the Rose n Crown pub in Stacksteads on Monday.

Contestants must tussle in a pool of Lancashire gravy for two minutes, with their performance scored on audience applause and various moves.

On the same day, Queen Street Mill in Burnley is hosting traditional entertainment from 12pm to 5pm.

And of course there is the blues festival in Colne.

Weathermen are forecasting showers, so make sure you take an umbrella.
