THE wife of an East Lancashire defence lawyer David Edwards has appeared in court charged with his murder.

Sharon Edwards, 42, appeared dishevelled and confused as she entered the secure dock at Preston Magistrates’ Court.

Flanked by two dock officers, Edwards, of Parkers Wood Close, Chorley, spoke only to confirm her name, age and address.

She did not enter any plea to the charge she faces.

But when deputy district judge Maggie McCormack explained the case could only be heard at the crown court, Edwards replied: “David’s not dead.”

Two members of Edwards’ family sat in the public gallery clearly distraught as the newlywed made the five minute appearance.

Dressed in a grey T-shirt, her blonde hair unbrushed, Edwards waved and blew kisses at them, shaking her head and gesturing as she was led to the cells.

She was represented by Preston solicitor Sephton Lee.

Mr Edwards was a Chorley based criminal defence lawyer of 26 years who worked at Kevills.

Mr Lee told the court he had been instructed to make a full bail application which will take place at Preston Crown Court on Friday.

However Edwards has been remanded in custody until that appearance.

Mr Edwards, 51, died on Sunday from a single stab wound to his chest at their £320,000 home.

He and his wife married in Lancashire in June and had recently returned from honeymoon in Las Vegas, where they renewed their vows.

Deputy district judge Maggie McCormack told Edwards: “This is an offence that can’t be heard at the magistrates’ court. It can only be dealt with at the crown court.”
