STAFF at a charity shop have been landed with an outsize sales target after a pair of size 18 trainers were donated.

But the team at the East Lancashire Hospice shop on Railway Road, Blackburn, are confident they can find their ‘Cinderfella’ to fill the boots.

Shop manager Louise Naughton said she had no idea who had donated the white Reebok Premier trainers in bags with other items.

“I assume it wasn’t the owner who brought them in because we might have noticed him,” said Louise.

“We are grateful for all donations and I am sure we will find a good home for these trainers although the number of potential buyers is clearly limited.

“They are in excellent condition and look like they have hardly been worn.”

A spokeswoman for East Lancashire Hospice said customers at the shop would get first refusal on the trainers, but if they struggle to shift the super-size sneakers, they will go on the charity’s e-bay site.

Other unusual donation received across the seven hospice shops in East Lancashire include; half a set of false teeth, a re-born doll, a Ford Ka, 18 small perspex boxes containing replica insects, an adult board game, a man’s thong with an elephant’s trunk at the front, and a pair of ladies perspex shoes with flowers in the heels.

The charity, which has shops on Railway Road, Whalley New Road and Nee Chapel Street – all in Blackburn, Accrington, Clitheroe, Great Harwood and Darwen, has annual running costs of £3.5million.

Last year the hospice shops made a turnover of £500,000 for the first time, with profit from the shops keeping the hospice running for 22 days.

East Lancashire Hospice cares for people with life limiting illnesses throughout Blackburn, Darwen, Accrington and Clitheroe.
