Available to view on subscription video-on-demand service MUBI as part of its regular curated line up, the harrowing short could now put the young director on the road to stardom.

The 21-year-old, from the Griffin area, said: “It was a bit overwhelming, I did not expect to win. Danny Boyle saw the film and congratulated us, saying it was a great film.”

Aaron and his co-writer and director Joseph Ollman filmed Throw Me to the Dogs in the town for a week in February, with a cast of budding actors from across East Lancashire.

It was shown at the Giffoni Film Festival last month as part of an over-18s category, and has been lined up for several other screenings, despite costing less than £1,000 to make.

The movie was judged a winner at the Shuffle Festival, held in Tower Hamlets, London, last week, by Danny Boyle, of Trainspotting and Slumdog Millionaire fame.

His fellow judges were filmmaker Kim Longinotto, Nightcrawler actor Riz Ahmed, Guardian film critic Peter Bradshaw, and MUBI founder Efe Çakarel.

Aaron has revealed his next flick, The Truants, will also be shot in Blackburn.

The film, which will be filmed early next year, will be screened at Bafta as Aaron graduates from the University of the Arts in London, he added.
