FAMILY and friends of a boy who died suddenly three years ago organised a charity walk on what would have been his 19th birthday.

Daniel Nicholls, who suffered an unexplained seizure in December 2012, would have been 19 last week.

His parents asked for a donation to join in the walk and received contributions in the following days.

Daniel, who was a passionate Blackburn Rovers fan and was once a matchday mascot, is remembered lovingly by his family and friends. The teen, a computer student at Runshaw College, was not suffering ill health before he died.

The walk started off at McDonald’s in Chorley, where Daniel used to like meeting up with his friends, and went past Duke Street Primary School and down to Southlands High School, both of which Daniel attended.

His mum Lorraine said: “We were overwhelmed by the generosity of people. Even strangers donated when they saw us on the walk.

“We miss Danny so so much. The grief and the horror of that terrible day will never leave us, and we will never understand why, but it helps us to know people care enough to help us raise money in memory of our wonderful son and to keep his memory alive by raising funds to help others.”

The walk has raised £726.61 so far for Champs Appeal, a charity which supports families with children who suffer from a serious bowel condition, Hirschsprung’s disease.

Sufferers have some or all of their colon missing, which has a massive impact on their life.

This charity is close to Daniel’s family’s heart as his three-year-old nephew Jacob suffers from the condition.

Jacob could not join in the walk as the condition made him unwell that day.

The amount raised brings the total gathered in Daniel’s name for various charities to £4,706.98.
