THE chef patron at a popular Ribble Valley pub is to move on after 13 years.

Anson Bolton, 47, said he felt now was the best time to leave the Millstone at Mellor, but will be going with many fond memories.

His career will now see him take on a role as a food development manager for a Manchester-based company.

Mr Bolton said: "I've loved every minute I've had here. A highlight would definitely be winning a long established Rosette award in 2003 and retaining it ever since."

Mr Bolton said he was particularly pleased with how the pub played such a big part in the community.

He said: "We are known for our food, but we get out into the community and help raise money in local events.

"We make sure we are a part of the community as much as they are a part of us. We've seen our success grow ever year through this."

Mr Bolton said he had stayed at the Thwaites owned pub for such a long time because it suited his family life.

He said: "When I joined my children were toddlers and they grew up in the local school, we lived in the area, it worked.

"I've had people tell me 'Mellor is in the walls' of the pub, which I agree with. You can't describe it, there's something about this pub, the atmosphere, it's a great place to be.

"When I started, before the days of social media, almost all bookings came via the telephone, but now 70 per cent of them come via the internet, so it's great to see the pub has adapted.

"When you've been here for so long it's quite a wrench to move on, but I'm looking forward to being on the other side of the bar."

Customers have praised Mr Bolton via the pubs facebook account after learning of his departure yesterday.

Yvonne Robinson said her wedding was the first reception Mr Bolton catered for.

She said: "We have fond memories of our excellent wedding meal, thank you and all the best."

Teresa Entwistle said: "The place wouldn't be the same without him."

The pub doesn't currently have a replacement but is looking to fill the position Mr Bolton said he would like to thank all the staff he's worked with over the years, and thank all the suppliers he's worked with.
