PAUL Taylor will be spinning the vinyl in aid of cancer research when he lights up Clitheroe Castle with his mighty dance tunes on Saturday night.

Taylor's stunning set on the Fortress stage at the recent Beat-Herder festival was hailed as one of the highlights of the sell out Ribble Valley music bash.

Now Burnley DJ Taylor - who will deliver a two hour performance inside the castle's bandstand - will team up with a host of young DJs whose lives have been touched by cancer.

"My mother fought a long and hard battle against cancer, and thankfully mum is back to health again," said Taylor.

"I don't think there is enough screening for the disease, so doing this event - Beats Cancer - is one close to my heart and a way of perhaps making a difference."

He added: "This is a massive event and one I really want to do."

It promises to be a non-stop Saturday night for Taylor, with the Retro DJ performing headline shows in Manchester and Leeds following his free Clitheroe set from 7pm to 9pm

"There's a lot of people coming over and the more the merrier because that means we can raise as much money as possible for Beats Cancer," added Taylor.

"It is also hats off to the local council who are are letting this happen because it is so hard to get an event off the ground in this day and age and to the DJs who have put this brilliant event on.

"It should be a great sound too because the bandstand is in a natural ampitheatre."

Although it is a free event, organisers are asking dance fans who attend to give £5 at the entrance or donate on www.justgiving.com/Beats-Cancer - to raise money for Cancer Research UK.

Ribble Valley DJs Duncan Dickins, Sara Rushton and Robert Valinakis will play at Beats Cancer for a second time, with the aim of raising last year's sum of £2,000

Duncan's dad, of Clitheroe, was 44 when he died from cancer.

"I can only begin to imagine the agony of losing a loved one through this horrible disease," said Taylor.

"We all share a love of underground dance music, and I know from talking to many people in the Ribble Valley, Burnley and Blackburn, that they want to be there on Saturday to raise money for this cause."

There will be a licensed bar, hot food and activities to keep children entertained.

Beats Cancer runs from 1pm until 10pm on Saturday in Clitheroe Castle Grounds.
