A MAN who went to the sorting office to collect a parcel ended up smashing a £500 window and then reported himself to the police.

Blackburn magistrates heard Adrian John Preston became frustrated when the member of staff refused to accept the ID he produced in order to collect the parcel for his partner.

He left after shouting abuse, returned and made more threats and then left again before smashing the five feet by five feet window.

Preston, 31, of Hertford Street, Blackburn, pleaded guilty to criminal damage. He was given a conditional discharge for 12 months and ordered to pay £552 compensation and £150 criminal court charge.

Catherine Allan, prosecuting, said the staff member at the sorting office tried to calm Preston down and explained the situation to him. He also had to apologise to other customers who witnessed the incident.

“After he had smashed the window he contacted the police and admitted what he had done,” said Miss Allan.

Preston said he had lost his temper after becoming frustrated.

“He was basically calling me a thief and said the world would be a better place without con men like me,” said Preston.
