A GROUP of music lovers are launching a new event to improve the nightlife in Accrington.

The 9pm until 5am night at the Attic will be filled with underground house tunes from top DJs, including ex Radio 1 DJ Lottie, Hi-jaq from Accrington, Hakka from Rawtenstall, Paul Domino and Chris Lorin.

It is the first official Su Casa Musica event, organised by a group of friends who were frustrated at the quality of the after-dark offerings for music fans in the town.

Following a sold-out trial event in February, Dan, Chris and Scott Barnes are hoping to replicate the atmosphere of iconic clubs like Angels and XPO in Burnley, Manhattans and Cubes in Blackburn, Monroe’s in Great Harwood and Carlos II in Colne.

And Accrington lad Tony Flood and Simon Johnson, from Chorley, have just completed the first of four promo mixes to advertise the date.

Theirs is a mix of laid back nu-disco and bass heavy grooves, possibly the perfect contrast to what will be happening in the main room at the Warner Street venue on Saturday, August 15.

IT consultant Chris, 35, says they are ‘made up’ that they have managed to secure house music legend Lottie, who has been at the forefront of the electronic music scene for two decades, for their first event.

He said: “She was possibly the first ever female DJ to be taken seriously, and having headlined all the top events and venues all over the world, confirming her was quite a coup for us.

“Of course we like a good party, but for us it’s all about the music these days, and whether that be DJ-ing, producing or promoting events it’s all about getting people out on a Saturday night and listening to the best underground house music.

“We know that it’s difficult coming from round here and not having any good events to play at locally.”

Long-term the group are looking to unearth acts from the area, who could play at future Su Casa Musica events.

Chris said: “We are open to demos from DJs from the East Lancashire area – if local DJs think they have what it takes then they can contact us through Facebook, Twitter or our website, send us a mix and if it’s right they’ll get a chance to play, it’s as simple as that.

“We have booked a talented DJ called Model Citizen from the Burnley area for our October event.”
