Work starts on Monday at the junction near the fire station and St Mary’s Church but it will result in a series of closures and diversions from Monday until the end of August.

For the first week vehicles approaching Rawtenstall from Haslingden on the A681 Haslingden Road will be unable to turn right on to the A682 Bury Road, instead will be diverted on to the A682 Bury Road via Bacup Road and Bocholt Way.

A further short diversion will be in needed later in the project, with the access to Bacup Road closed from Monday, July 27, until the end of August.

Access to businesses will be maintained throughout.

Mick Dand, Lancashire County Council highways manager for Rossendale, said: “This is a busy junction and the pelican crossings will make it much easier for pedestrians to cross.

“We’re sorry for the disruption while we carry out the improvements.”
