The UK’s first school exchange between an Islamic seminary and a mainstream school took place with members taking part in a whole range of neighbourhood activities.
Initiated by the 1st Ethical Charitable trust, as part of its educational cultural exchange initiative ‘Me: We’ saw Jamiatul Ilm Wal Huda Blackburn open its doors to ten students from neighbouring school Hollins Technology College.
As part of this exchange, the students worked together to carry out social responsibility campaigns within central Blackburn.
At the Jamiatul Ilm Wal Huda students from both schools took part in a passionate discussion and debate on the importance of shared values.
The ‘Me: We’ project is an educational initiative which aims to provide safe and open spaces for discussion and collaboration on shared values between Muslim faith schools and mainstream schools.
Waqaus Ali, Managing Director of 1st Ethical, said, “We believe that through interaction, dialogue and social responsibility campaigns, we can break down social and cultural barriers and inspire champions who work for the benefit of their community.”
