DETECTIVES in a second Lancashire town are mystified by “suspicious markings” on residents' walls.
White chalk markings have been discovered on the rear gates of several properties in the Town Hill Bank area of Padiham just days after they were spotted in Chorley.

Online sleuths are discussing the daubings – with people suggesting they could highlight which homes have pets, expensive bikes or high-value cars.
PC Rebecca Romano, of Burnley Police, said: Historically they are rumoured to be connected to criminal activity however there are no facts to substantiate this.
“Please check the security your property, including garages and sheds and keep an eye on your neighbourhood. Report anything suspicious to the police.”
Earlier this week, Michael Payne, Community Beat Manager for Chorley, Astley Village and Buckshaw, said: “There has been some debate about what these markings mean and where they have come from on various Facebook pages.
“Chorley Police can confirm that there have not been any dogs stolen or any burglaries at these properties.
“That said, we would encourage, as always that people keep their properties locked and secure at all times where possible .”
