POLICE have arrested and charged a man with a human trafficking offence after finding a woman they believe was at risk.

Officers said that the arrest was made after two warrants were executed on Friday under the Human Trafficking Act.

An address in St James Street, Blackburn was searched as well as another address in Ford Street in Burnley.

At the Burnley address a 26-year-old woman, a Romanian national, was discovered and has been taken to a place of safety where she is being supported by a number of charities and agencies.

On Saturday, Razvan Ursu, 32, of Ford Street, Burnley, appeared before Blackburn magistrates, where he denied a charge of human trafficking for the purposes of sexual exploitation.

No application for bail was made and he will next appear at Preston Crown Court on Monday, July 27.

Trafficking is the movement of a person from one place to another.

This could be country to country, town to town, or even as simple as one room in a building to another, into conditions of exploitation, using deception, coercion, abuse of power or the abuse of the person’s vulnerability.
