A SPURNED husband who insisted his wife was having an affair with a family friend turned up on her doorstep demanding answers, a court heard.

Even though Milan Olejar was the subject of a restraining order, involving his wife Urina Olejarova, he eventually grabbed a kitchen knife and held it to his former partner’s throat, Burnley Crown Court was told.

His wife thought he had ‘gone crazy’ when he then threatened to kill her, the family friend and then commit suicide, the court heard.

Peter Barr, prosecuting, said the friend was at the wife’s home in Rickard Road, Nelson, but left when she heard a knock at the door.

Assuming the friend had forgotten something and returned, Ms Olejarova opened the door and came face-to-face with her estranged husband, who appeared to be drunk.

The court was told that she only let him inside the house because it was late and she didn’t want to wake the children.

Olejar repeated his accusation regarding the family friend, with his wife again insisting there was no romance between them.

The court heard there was a struggle between the pair, after he had picked up the knife, which resulted in her grabbing the blade and running off to her bedroom.

The police arrived shortly afterwards and Olejar was arrested.

Philip Holden, defending, said his client’s life had spiralled out of control after he had suffered an injury at work and he later encountered marital problems.

Olejar, 57, of no fixed address, admitted assault and breaching a restraining order and was jailed for 14 months. An indefinite restraining order was imposed, preventing contact with his former wife.

Jailing him, Judge Beverly Lunt said: “You need to understand that your marriage is over.

The next time you breach this order I will send you to prison for four years.”
