A GIRL on a Duke of Edinburgh expedition had to be rescued after falling on moorland.

The 14-year old was with a group walking on Anglezarke Moor, near High Bullough Reservoir just out of Chorley, on Saturday when she tripped and injured her ankle. She was taken to Royal Bolton Hospital.

Bolton Mountain Rescue Team, which was nearby at Horwich Community Fire Station open day, attended along with Bowland Mountain Rescue Team.

A United Utilities ranger and the North West Air Ambulance also attended the incident at 3.35pm on Saturday, and opened up access past the reservoir so the mountain rescue teams could reach her.

Garry Rhodes, team leader at Bolton Mountain Rescue Team, said: “A young girl who was taking part in a Duke of Edinburgh expedition fell while walking on Anglezarke Moor, near High Bullough Reservoir.

“She injured her ankle, though we were unable to know what damage she suffered.

“The rest of the group carried on their expedition while a member stayed with her.

“We had been nearby at Horwich Community Fire Station for their open day, which was just coming to an end when we got the call.

“Four members of our team attended in our Land Rover Defender mountain rescue ambulance and a incident control vehicle.

“We took her in the Land Rover to an ambulance which then took her to Royal Bolton Hospital.”
