Doherty’s last conviction was in 2014, also for failing to inform police of his address.

He was originally sentenced in relation to the sexual assault of a boy at Burnley Crown Court in 2005.

DC 2602 Andy Ashworth from the East Dangerous and Sexual Offenders Unit said: “We take any breach of notification requirements very seriously and as a result of Doherty failing to tell us of his current whereabouts, we are trying to trace him.

“I would also urge Doherty himself, if he sees this appeal, to hand himself in to the police.”

Francis Doherty was last sighted in Manchester City Centre on Monday, May 25.

He has links to Accrington, Bacup and Haslingden and is known to move around sleeping on friend’s sofas.

He is described as white, around 5ft 8ins with blue eyes, of proportionate build and speaks with a north west accent.
