Each bag created at the East Lancashire company is unique. The material is hand cut in the St Mary’s Street mill, Nelson, to make the most of the patterns and logos on the large sheets of fabric and it is sewn by the experienced machinists.

He said: “We wanted to develop something different but using our current resources and that didn’t put our current business at risk.

“At the moment we have diverted three or four existing staff and we hope to expand.”

Lancashire Telegraph:

The new product utilises products which would normally be sent to landfill.

David said: “Trailer curtains tend to just be thrown away when they are replaced and they are a really hard-wearing and interesting fabric.

“We are aiming them at students and young professionals, and people concerned about the environment.

“Every bag is unique. All the lorries have different logos and colours on them. We try to pick those that have something a bit different. Each bag is individual, they all have marks and wear but that’s the charm and appeal of them and their history.”

He said the latest venture has changed his outlook on road trips.

“When I drive round I think ‘that looks attractive and I like those colours or shapes, and I make a note to call the company .

“A lot of the work is done before we sew it. The sewing is the final stage. The work is in the preparation.”

He said the bottom of some of the bags were reinforced with faulty fire hoses and handles were made from old seat belts.

“We have plans for plenty more shapes and designs in the pipeline. We have tote bags, small backpacks and a cargo backpacks, courier bags and weekend bags. The possibilities are endless .

“The Carradice bike bag side is very buoyant for us. We are enjoying good growth in the UK and abroad and we are riding the crest.”

The brand, was launched on May 15 at the Best of Britannia event showcasing products made in the UK.
