Crew Manager Gary Thorpe said: “The occupant had put the chip pan on and then become distracted while feeding the baby.
“When they went back into the kitchen the chip pan was on fire, so they shut the door, called us and got out of the house.”
Two fire officers wearing breathing apparatus went in and a ventilation unit was used to clear the property of smoke.
Crew Manager Thorpe added: “We always advise people to use deep fat fryers rather than chip pans, to make sure they are never left unattended and to make sure smoke alarms are fitted.”
