A 28-YEAR-OLD man went looking for his ex-partner despite not having seen her in the two and a half years since he was jailed for assaulting her.

Blackburn magistrates heard Anthony David Corless turned up at the pub where she worked on consecutive days.

On the second occasion he assaulted her as she left the Fernhurst with other members of staff.

Corless, of Formby Close, Blackburn, pleaded guilty to assaulting Katy Buck.

He was jailed for 120 days and made subject to a restraining order for two years which prohibits him from contacting her or entering the Fernhurst.

He was also ordered to pay £80 victim surcharge and £150 criminal court charge on his release.

Parveen Akhtar, prosecuting, said the couple had been in a relationship for five and a half years but it had ended when he was jailed for a previous assault on her.

Miss Buck was working in the kitchen at the pub when a colleague came in and said her ex was looking for her.

“She says the pub was not his local and his presence put her on edge.”

When she left the kitchen he was verbally abusive and told her to ‘watch what happened when she finished work’.

Corless was told to leave but returned the next day when he was spoken to by Miss Buck’s boss and warned not to cause trouble.

When he saw her he made a throat slitting gesture towards her and then held his fingers to his head like he was firing a gun.

“When she left the pub he was there and either punched or head butted her in the face, she wasn’t sure which,” said Miss Akhtar.

“She tried to get back into the pub but he grabbed her by the hair and kicked her on the thigh.”

Gareth Price, defending, said his client was realistic about what would happen to him.

“There hadn’t been any contact since his release from prison in September 2013 but he accepts he went to the Fernhurst looking for her,” said Mr Price.

“He expressed his sorrow to the police and asks me to repeat that today.”
