A spokesperson for Aldi said: “We are encouraged by support we have received from the local community for our plans for a second food store in Burnley.
“At our exhibition, many local residents told us they currently have to travel across town to shop with us.
“We feel a new store offers a great opportunity to increase local-shopping choice and improve convenience for residents in the east of Burnley.
“The proposal will deliver a multi-million pound investment in the local area and create up to 40 much-needed new jobs.”
Burnley Council will determine the application, with a decision expected to be made in late summer.
