THE granddaughter of a man who died from prostate cancer is going for the jackpot with a fundraising casino night at Turf Moor.

It is the second time Lauren Fallows, 25, an English teacher at St Wilfrid’s Academy, Blackburn, has arranged the Burnley v Cancer campaign evening.

The glitzy event on Friday, June 26, in the James Hargreaves Suite, has a 1920s gangster theme.

Lauren is making arrangements alongside her dad John Fallows who runs an accountants’ business in Lyndhurst Road, Burnley. And it was John’s dad Martin who died of prostate cancer aged 62 in 2000.

They are hoping to raise more than last year’s £4,000 and are donating money raised to local cancer charities including The Gail Simpson Memorial Fund for Pendleside Hospice.

Lauren said: “The success of the casino night last year was overwhelming so this year we are going to have even more tables. We hope many people will join the gangster theme fun or alternatively formal evening dress will be fine.

“People will be in with a chance of winning some fantastic raffle prizes that have been donated by local businesses.”

Once the gambling and a break for eating is over revellers will be able to dance to the 10-piece Soul Convicts band.

Tickets are £20 and are available by ringing 07966787222; through the official twitter @burnleyvscancer or from John Fallows’ office in Lyndhurst Road.

Apart from joining in the casino the £20 ticket also covers food and entry to an after-party at Illuminati Bar in Hammerton Street.

Lauren added: “We hope this year’s event will be bigger and better than last year. We welcome works’ parties as well as couples and individuals.

“Also if any business is interested in sponsoring a table they can contact the above number for sponsorship package details.

“The main sponsor package costs £200 which includes two free tickets.”

Miss Fallows said: “The whole evening is themed with a 1920s gangster twist and indeed the dress code is formal evening dress with an optional gangster twist.

“Attendees should think along the lines of ball gowns, braces and bow-ties — although formal evening dress will suffice if this isn’t your thing.

“I like things to be bigger and better, so that’s exactly what we’re going for this time! Last year we had Danny Ings drawing the raffle and this year we have a few sneaky surprises!”
