A DOG-LOVER praised a website that galvanised thousands of people to help search for her missing pet.

Sandra Barker’s female lurcher Hooky, which was found dying, was lost on Crown Point near Burnley, sparking a cyber-hunt on doglost.co.uk.

Through the domain, worried pet lovers sent alerts to ‘helpers’ across eight postcodes, ‘cross-posted’ to a lost lurchers website and even went driving through the barren hills.

More than 2,200 shared links of the desperate pleas for help and the search was also re-tweeted on social networking website Twitter.

Hooky was eventually found dying six days later – with one final act of kindness from a stranger who carried the ailing animal down from the moor.

Sandra, of Step Row, Bacup, was overwhelmed by the response and wants to thank everyone from the website who tried to help.

Lancashire Telegraph:

Sandra, who has two other rehomed lurchers – Olly, 10, and Tilly, four – said: “I think it was absolutely brilliant.

“They couldn’t have done more.

“There were over 13,000 people who looked at the site, people I don’t know, looking for her.

“I don’t think Hooky left the moor. I think she nose-dived and broke her neck.

“I have received so much help and support from people I just don’t know.”

Sandra now wants to personally thank the gentleman who helped carry the dying dog down from the hills.

She described him as a “lovely man”, adding “what a kind and caring thing to do”.

She said: “I don’t know the name of the gentleman who helped get Hooky off the moor but I want to thank him.

Lancashire Telegraph:

“He kindly talked to Hooky all the while he was carrying her and gently put her into the car when we got back to the car parks.

“His kindness was much appreciated and hopefully I will be able to thank him in person again when I see him out walking with his dog.”

Hooky went missing at about 8.30am on Thursday, May 7.
