ART lovers could be set to ‘brush’ past the next Tracey Emin or Damien Hirst at a special showcase by students from Blackburn College.

The students’ work, which will be put on display next month, contributed to them gaining places at universities including Chelsea, Central Saint Martins, London College of Fashion, Cambridge School of Visual Arts, and Edinburgh University.

The pieces were created by members of Blackburn College’s UAL Foundation Art and Design course of choice.

Sarah Munroe, 19, who is going to the University of Liverpool to study architecture, said: “I can’t wait to actually get started, I’m not really that nervous either because a few of my mates go there already.

Lancashire Telegraph:

“I feel prepared; the models I’ve created this year were based on the new ‘waves’ swimming baths in Blackburn town centre, so I think having a bit of experience will help.”

Molly Durkin, 18, who will go to Northumbria University to study interior design, said: “I feel confident and prepared because I’ve completed this foundation course which I think will set me in good stead for the real thing .”

The course s made up with students from across East Lancashire.

The preview to the exhibition will take place on June 17, at the college and runs from 6pm to 8.30pm, showcasing all of the students work.

Tutor Sally Taylor said: “Lots of people don’t know we are based at the college but when they find out they are keen to know more.

“Going to university can make or break your career before it has even started because of the people you meet as well as the university’s reputation.

“Going to to the top universities is such a great opportunity for our students and it’s great we’ve been able to contribute.”
