A DOG walker died after collapsing in a Blackburn street yesterday afternoon.

The 65-year-old was taken to Royal Blackburn Hospital after being found in Rockcliffe Street at around 1pm.

He was taken to Royal Blackburn Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival, police said. His dog, a black labrador, was being cared for at a local kennels.

Neil Parker, 50, was visiting his elderly mother in nearby Cobourg Close when he saw emergency vehicles arriving.

He said he believed the man lived in Yates Fold, and said they would often enjoy conversations together.

He said: “ I knew him to talk to but I don’t know his name.

“Our dogs used to run around together and we used to chat about the weather.

“His dog would run around the spare ground off Rockcliffe Street and come back with a big stick. It’s a lovely dog.”

A section of the quiet street, close to Screwfix off Grimshaw Park, was cordoned off by police officers as paramedics fought to save the man’s life.

A spokeswoman for the North West Ambulance Service said: “A 65-year-old male fell and sustained a head injury.”
