IN A new category for 2015, extra special youngsters at special schools across East Lancashire can be recognised for the joy they bring to people’s lives.
The pupils who, through physical disability or learning difficulty, are unable to attend conventional institutions in the primary or secondary sector, come with extra challenges but also extra rewards.
This category aims to focus a spotlight on pupils who have brought a smile to someone’s face and maybe a tear to someone’s eye through achieving the seemingly impossible, or helping others.
It might be that they have academically achieved over and above what was expected of them, or, despite their own challenges, have helped to improve the lives of others.
Judges will be looking for pupils who help those around them, are kind and sincere and are keen to get involved in all kinds of different school activities.
He or she might also have shone in others ways, for example, learning a new skill through determination and dedication.
Nominations can come from teachers, governors, parents, other pupils (with parental approval) or anyone who believes they know of a five to 18-year-old who deserves to be recognised in this new category.
