THE owner of a car attacked by vandals with a paving slab believes it was deliberately targeted.

Mark Pearson said he had “no idea” why somebody had taken the slab of concrete to his partner’s Chrysler Ypsilon.

The three-year-old car was one of six parked in a residents’ car park in Holst Gardens, Blackburn, but it was the only one that was damaged in the attack.

Mark, 27, a quality engineer at James Dewhurst in Altham, said: “It was my partner’s car that was damaged but mine was parked next to it, quite close, and there isn’t a scratch on it.

“It’s like they’ve gone out of their way to avoid causing damage to any other cars.

“It’s been done with a slab off the top of a brick wall.

“They’ve smashed the back window and damaged the roof, the side and the bonnet of the car. It’s a mess.

“The insurance company think it is going to be a write-off because they have caused so much damage.

The police took forensics from the car on Monday, but Mark said the reason for the attack was a mystery.

He said: “The car park is quite well hidden away, you’ve got to know it’s there, you don’t just walk past it.

“We’ve been racking our brains since it happened to try and work out if we have done anything that might have prompted it, but we’ve got no idea.

“I don’t know whether it is someone who has got the wrong car, or if it’s somebody that has decided to take out their anger on a car.

“I’ve been all round the estate trying to see where the slab might have come from but it’s not off the estate, so they’ve obviously brought it with them.”

The fact the car is out of action is going to cause Mark, and his partner Carley Billington, problems, the couple said.

Mark, who is offering a £500 reward for any information which leads to a conviction, said: “My partner is seven months pregnant and she is having a few troubles so she can’t really walk very far. She needs the car to get around.

“I need a car for my work and we’ve also got two girls, aged five and seven, and we need to take them and pick them up from school.”

Police said they were investigating the incident.

Anybody who might have seen anything suspicious in the area between 11pm on Sunday and 7am on Monday should call officers on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
