The vehicle - registration MK59 LGY - has Sleep Easy written on its side and was previously reported to the police’s Farm Watch scheme in March and April 2013.

PC Sandham said: “The occupants were then described as Irish and offering mattresses for sale from the van. They were more often than not reported visiting rural premises with elderly residents. They visited farms in the Gisburn and Pendle areas.

“Trading Standards always recommend that we never buy on the doorstep.”
