A SERIES of interim grants are set to be made to food banks across East Lancashire while county councillors conduct an in-depth review of their support for the system.

Community Solutions, which has bases in Burnley and Accrington, and covers at least six boroughs, has been given the largest award at £7,000.

Another £4,000 has been presented in Inspiring Grace, which covers Burnley and Pendle, with £1,000 apiece allocated to the Rossendale-based RAFT Foundation and Lifeline, and the same amount to Chorley's Living Waters Storehouse.

The funding, approved by Cllr David Borrow, the authority's deputy leader, is designed to cover the expected number of referrals for the early part of 2015-16.

Between them the same food banks were given £51,000 in 2014-15.

County council officials expect their review, under the care and urgent needs support service, to be completed soon, with recommendations made for the remainder of the financial year.
