BACUP and Rawtenstall Grammar School is a "good school with outstanding features."

That's the conclusion of Ofsted inspectors who visited the Waterfoot school this month.

Inspectors praised the "first class" relationships between staff and pupils, and the latter are described as "confident and articulate learners" thanks to the outstanding care, guidance and support of the school.

The Glen Road school's 500 sixth-form students came in for particular praise for their "exceptional performance", and are rated outstanding in all categories Inspectors commended pupils' continuing academic achievements, exemplary behaviour, and positive contributions to the school.

The teaching staff have "excellent subject knowledge" and the report said the view of one pupil summed it up: "The school is brilliant at helping us with any problems."

Headmaster Marc Morris said: "We are delighted with the report which recognises our superb students, supportive parents, excellent staff and dedicated governors.

"We are thrilled that our sixth form has been rated as outstanding and we are looking forward to the opening of our new sixth form centre."
