PROFESSOR George Lightbody Montgomery, who was Emeritus Professor of

Pathology at Edinburgh University, has died. He was 87.

Professor Montgomery was chairman of the Scottish Health Services

Council from 1954 to 1959. He was awarded the CBE in 1960.

A pathologist at the Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Glasgow from

1937-48 and professor of pathology at Glasgow University from 1948-54,

he was then appointed professor of pathology at Edinburgh University, a

position he held until 1971.

He was educated at Hillhead High and Glasgow University.

He was married with one daughter and one son.
