SCOTTISH solicitor Colin Anderson was elected president of the European Company Lawyers Association at the body's 20th anniversary conference in Edinburgh last week. Anderson, legal manager of Standard Life's legal life services department, will occupy the position for three years. Anderson said one of the associa-tion's priorities will be working towards a modernisation of legal privilege rules so that these are extended to in-house counsel. He added: ''I am particularly earnest about our work in developing in-house legal practice in the accession countries of Europe, where we have recently assisted the national associations of

the Czech Republic, Estonia, Poland, and Bulgaria. Discussions are continuing with in-house lawyers in Greece and Russia.''
