THE Blackburn Rovers Disabled Supporters’ Club is to relaunch at a special event this month.

The club, which was originally formed 23 years ago, folded 14 months ago. But a new committee has come together to revive it.

As well as the popular Christmas party and end-of-season awards night, the club also plans to put on further events including activities not related to football.

And an official launch party will be held at Ewood Park’s Blues Bar on Wednesday, March 25, and will take the shape of an evening with former Rovers stars Stuart Metcalfe and John Kenyon.

John Lewis, secretary of the relaunched club, said: “The relaunched club is on Facebook and Twitter at the moment.

“It is going well but we are hoping that more will sign up at the launch party.

“The numbers had dropped previously and there were about 40 members.

“But we still had a lot of support and there were 200 coming to the Christmas party and hundreds at the player-of-the-year awards nights.”

Blackburn Rovers Disabled Supporters’ Club was founded in 1992.

It was a founder member of the National Association of Disabled Supporters, known as Level Playing Field.

Mr Lewis said he had been a supporter and member of the group since 1994.

He said: “Rovers were well ahead of the curve on this and now about 50 per cent of football clubs have a club for disabled supporters.

“We want to do all the things the previous club did and add to that.

“With that in mind we are looking at non-football events such as trips out.

“We want to see what the members want.”

To reserve a place at the launch event, email John Lewis at lewisjjj98@gmail.com or call 01254 209820.

Entry will be payable on the door and costs £1. Admission for under-16s will be free if they are accompanied by an adult.

Disabled fans wishing to guarantee a place on the coach to away games can do so by informing the club of their intentions to travel three weeks before the game.
