TWO charity champions from Rossendale joined their local MP Jake Berry at a special reception at 10 Downing Street hosted by Prime Minister’s wife Samantha Cameron.

MPs invited two guests from their constituencies who they considered to be ‘charity champions’ to attend a reception in their honour.

Mr Berry nominated Peter and Hazel Steen, both from Bacup, in recognition of their work raising thousands of pounds on behalf of the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal and for organising Bacup’s Remembrance Parade each year.

Samantha Cameron said: “It was a privilege to meet Peter and Hazel at 10 Downing Street.

“Their amazing work is changing the lives of individuals and families across Rossendale and it was an honour to celebrate their work at the reception for charity champions.”

Mr Berry said: “We are very lucky here in Rossendale to have so many people who go out of their way to help others.

“Hazel and Peter have both helped raise thousands of pounds for the Royal British Legion and this reception was a small way of saying ‘thank you’ for all their tireless work.”

Hazel Steen said: “It was a real privilege to attend the Charity Champions reception.

“It was great to speak to Samantha Cameron about the work we do raising money for the British Legion here in Bacup.

“I’d like to say thank you to Jake for inviting us to this special event.”
