A group of Lancashire charity workers have delivered more than £50,000 worth of winter aid relief distributed at the border of Syria.

Maulana Faruk, Principal of the Madrasah Zeenatul Quran based in Blackburn, Zuber Vali Mulla, Hafiz Abdussamad and friends travelled to the Syrian border to assist refugees affected by the conflict.

The group were visiting the area as part of the Al-Imdaad Foundation's Winder Warmth appeal. The charity is striving to help the poor overcome the suffering endured due to natural disasters and lack of life's basic necessities.

With night time temperatures plummeting, many Syrian refugees are struggling to find shelter from the harsh winter weather. As a result, refugees, including children, are often ill and suffer from health conditions. They visited a number of camps including Zaatry camp that houses 200,000 people.

Maulana Faruk Sahib said, “After a launching a winter warmth, appeal, students and staff of Madrasah Zeenatul Quran and other people sent huge donations to deliver blankets and aid in the camps.

“We visited to orphanage Madrasah where the temperature was -5. It was very emotional when we saw patients in them orphans.

“They had nothing to cover themselves in this cold but they was smiling, and had no complaints to god about the current situation, Maulana Faruk sahib wants to thank Dr Nisar MP (member of Jordanian parliament) who helped us every step and organize everything for them and to Hafiz abdussamd (project manager), Zuber Vali Mulla and the rest of the team for their hard work.

He added, “I am very happy that we distribute blankets with our own hands to the most needy people. Lastly, thank you very much to all the staff, students and parents of the Madras Zeenatul Quran who donated a huge amount of money and I am expecting to collect over £100,000 in Ramadhan.”
