A COUNCILLOR has teamed up with Burnley FC to highlight the plight of Ebola suffers in West Africa with an awareness-raising day at Turf Moor.

Campaigners from Christian Aid and other local groups will host Kick Out Ebola at the ground tomorrow to explain how the killer virus has wiped out families in the likes of Sierra Leone and The Gambia.

And the club has agreed to collecting buckets being deployed at the Premier League fixture against West Bromwich Albion on Sunday, February 8.

Plans are in place for a drop-in session in the 1882 Lounge, from 2pm to 4pm, followed at 7pm by an interactive presentation by the charity on conditions in Ebola-hit neighbourhoods.

Cllr Bea Foster, who is arranging the event, said: “Even though the Ebola crisis has been in the headlines for a long time now there’s still a lot of misunderstanding around the disease and its effects on communities across West Africa.

“This is an opportunity to find out more about Ebola, how it is spread and the chances of cases happening here in Britain.

“It’s also an opportunity to help make a difference by donating however much you want to help fund the work to fight Ebola and get this outbreak under control. Every little bit helps.”

Apprentices at Burnley Council are also signed up and will be holding bucket collection at the authority’s offices.
