A NURSE who worked at the Royal Blackburn Hospital will face a misconduct panel, after being accused of failing to properly respond to a patient who had stopped breathing.

Vineetha Pachanal John, formerly of East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust, will appear before the panel in London, convened by the Nursing and Midwifery Council on January 26, for a three-day hearing.

She has been accused of failing to pull an emergency buzzer or ensure the cardiac arrest team were called, when a patient stopped breathing on Ward C7 on July 22, 2013.

The following night, it is alleged she failed to respond to a patient’s buzzer, made inconsistent records on a prescription chart and care notes and failed to make a contemporaneous record in the patient’s EWS Observations Scores and Pain Assessment Chart over a four-hour period.

If the panel finds there was misconduct, it will consider whether she is fit to continueworking, which could result in conditions of practise, suspension or removing her from the nursing register.

Kevin Moynes, director of human resources and organisational development at East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust, said she no longer works for the trust.
