A BYGONES reader has asked for information about her aunt Ivy White.

Sandra McGuiness has this photo of her, taken, probably in the mid-1920s, when she won a gymnastic event while aged in teens.

Ivy was born in 1913, and it is believed she lived in Bell Street, Blackburn, or on a street close by and after leaving school she worked in the mill.

A keen gymnast, she would get up early to do her jobs round the house, before her day’s work began, so that she would have time to go to evening gym classes in the evening.

She was also a good swimmer.

In the photograph that Sandra has of her mother’s sister, Ivy is standing by her trophy.

She said: “I don’t know what the gymnastic event was, but I understand her name is engraved on one of the shields around the bottom.

“There are other names, too, and I wonder if anyone knows of a relative who had also won the cup in the past.

“I know it is a long shot but it may mean something to someone and it would be lovely to have some information about the event and more details about Ivy.”
