WHEN Accrington baker Jackie Mottershead received an order for a birthday cake for Elvis Presley, she didn’t know if it was a wind up or if the rock and roll legend was alive and well.

In fact, the request came from bosses at the Thwaites Empire Theatre, who are putting on an event for what would have been the King’s 80th birthday.

The audience at the theatre’s ‘Happy Birthday, Elvis’ event will be treated to the special cake on Thursday.

Chairman Michael Berry said: “The theatre is always packed out of Elvis’ birthday.

“It doesn’t matter what day of the week the 8th falls on, or who the tribute is, Elvis is one name who’s always guaranteed to draw a crowd.”

However, bespoke celebration cake creator Jackie, who runs For Cake’s Sake in Oswaldtwistle is still keeping the Elvis’s birthday cake design a tightly guarded secret.

The Elvis tribute is Paul Molloy, who has appeared in 23 tribute championships since 2001, reaching the finals in 21 of them.

In 2013, he came third in the Best European Elvis Championships.

Tickets for the event at 7.30pm, cost £14.
