ALTHOUGH Christmas may be over (oh yes it is!), the panto season is far from finished.

In fact, in Pendle, it’s just getting started.

MORE TOP STORIES:

Firm family favourite, Sleeping Beauty, which first premiered at London’s Drury Lane in 1806, is showing at Colne Muni until January 18.

The show is directed and produced by panto stalwart George Critchley, of PMA Productions, who has once again succeeded in delivering a slice of festive family fun.

The pantomime has something for everyone, with laugh-out-loud slapstick comedy, songs from Disney’s smash hit animation Frozen, and a sprinkling of adult humour.

It also features a talented cast including Shorelle Hepkin from CBBC’s ‘Wolfblood’, who showed off some impressive vocals in the role of Fairy Liquid.

Lancashire Telegraph:

Darren John Langford, who played Spencer Gray in popular soap Hollyoaks, brings star quality to the show appearing as hapless Lord Chamberpot.

Karl Greenwood delivers a funny and likeable performance as Simple Simon, Nikki Horsburgh plays the leading role of Princess Aurora, and Samuel Pope is her sweetheart, Prince Valentine.

And one of the most impressive performances comes from Jenny Layton as the evil Carabosse the Maleficent.

Talented vocalist Layton has previously appeared in stage productions in London and Australia, but has chosen the Muni as the venue for her first pantomime, in which she delivers a truly terrifying performance as the resident pantomime villain.

But the real star of the show was comedy genius Keith De’Winter, who returned for his 10th year at the Muni to take the role of Nurse Nanny.

De’Winter’s performance is nothing short of hilarious, delighting young and old alike with his blend of slapstick, gags, and clever put-downs.

The story tells the tale of a beautiful princess who falls into a deep sleep after a spell is cast upon her by an evil witch - a spell that can only be broken by a kiss from a handsome prince.

PMA Productions has pulled out all the stops to bring the story to life, by transforming the stage with impressive scenery and fantastic lighting.

Although the first half was slightly long, the show is very entertaining, and a visit is sure to brighten up any cold January evening.

n Sleeping Beauty runs until Sunday, January 18. For times and ticket availability, call the Muni box office on 01282 661234.
